A sunrise on Driftwood Beach, Jekyll Island, GA
About 3 years ago I went out to the local beach on Jekyll Island, Georgia. I had just bought a new camera and wanted to try it out. I didn’t really know what I was doing at the time, but through trial and error I got a few shots that seemed to capture what the beautiful sunrise was like that morning. The photo below is as close as I could get to what I actually saw.
A couple of years later I entered one of the photos in a contest to be published in Jekyll Island: The Nearest Faraway Place. Three of the photos that I entered in the contest, amateur only photographers, won and made it into the book. Cool stuff!
I really like sunrise and sunset photos, I often get to see the sunrise on the way to work so I study them a lot. It is amazing the variation that you see in a sunrise in just 1 minute or so. The coloring that is seen at it’s peak of a sunrise can sometimes only be visible for 1-2 minutes. Earlier and it is too dark, later and it is washed out by the more direct sunlight.
