We all live busy lives these days. If you aren’t running around at work, you are running around after. Family events, after school practices, lunch meetings, grocery shopping…these are just some of the daily errands we all have to cope with. Most of us even manage it pretty well, especially now that we have so many tools to help us out.
But I have never been big on the expensive technology front, which has kept me from many of the cooler little gadgets like iPhone apps. So I have to find my way around that thriftiness and make due with what I have. Which in my case is a three year old Nokia that could survive being smashed with a hammer.
My access to the online world is limited through my mobile device. So I have to work my way aroound it by using email, something that thankfully many services are more than accommodating about. For those like me, here are ten excellent ways to get more from your email on the go.
1. Email to Post To Facebook

You can easily email to post an update to your Facebook account, as ever profile has a unique email address given automatically by the site. You can learn more about it here. To find the email address, go to your Account Settings > Mobile Settings and look at the bottom of the feature list. You can email a photo or video through it, using the subject as the caption you want on the update. You can also update your status message, comment on threads or post to messages via text by setting up your SMS settings in the same section.
2. Tweet Via Email

By setting up a TwitterMail account ahead of time (it is free) you can update your Twitter feed via email, as well. It will give you a unique address to use, and you just email it in within the right number of characters (160 or less). Links will be shortened. Photos and videos can be uploaded through the same address.
3. Keep Track of Travel Expenses

Do you hate trying to keep track of travel expenses through saved travel receipts as much as I do? While I keep one for everything I spend, it is such a hassle going through them all the time to come up with a running tally. I hate using a pen and paper, as well. Take the stress out of the whole process by emailing expenses to [email protected]. It will put together a spreadsheet for you and send it back to your email.
4. Upload Flickr Photos
If you sign into your Yahoo address, Flickr will give you a unique upload email address here. The caption is the subject of the email you send, which will show up as-is on your Flickr account. I use this all the time when I am traveling, or during parties. So I can just upload photos from my phone as I go (my camera is one of my only decent mobile features).
5. Post to Tumblr
On the top of your dashboard you can go to Settings through the little gear picture. There you can select what blog you want to publish to, and scroll down until you see the upload via email address where it gives you the unique address for your account. You have one for every Tumble profile on your account, so you can email to post an update to anyone, wherever you are.
6. Get a Word Definition and Synonym

Have you ever heard a word while out and about, and wanted to check it out? Only by the time you get home, you have inevitably forgotten what it was? Stop scribbling it on the back of your hand and instead send a quick email to [email protected]. It will send you back the dictionary definitions and synonyms for the words immediately. Cool, right?
7. See Any Web Page Via Email

Because I don’t have very good email access through my phone, I use this one a lot. So do people I know when they visit (or live in) countries with highly restrictive internet access, like in political blocks. You email [email protected] with the URL of any webpage as the subject. It will then send you a copy to your inbox of that page.
8. Update Your Task List
If you have Remember The Milk, you will love this one. Go to Settings > Info > Inbos Email Address and get the unique email it has created for you. You can use it to make changes to your to-do list as you go about your day, including marking things as done, or adding items and memos.
9. Convert a File to PDF
I really like Koolwire. You can now use it to create PDF files from documents on either your computer and phone. Just sent it to [email protected], and it will send the PDF back as an attachment.
10. Upload Videos to YouTube
YouTube lets you email to post videos from wherever you are, which is again a great tool for special events or travel. Or if something interesting happens through your day, you can get ip up immediately. You can find the unique email address in Account Information > Mobile Uploads.
